Weddings, Memorials, Ceremonies

Mary provides legal Marriage ceremonies, as well as other life passage events; Funerals, Memorials, Baby-naming ceremonies.

Humanist Marriage ceremonies are legally equivalent to a religious ceremony or a  civil ceremony (as provided by a Justice of the Peace or Marriage Commissioner, or a City Hall wedding),  but personally written for each couple, with an emphasis on shared values, ethics, human rights, mutual responsibility and respect.  Certified Humanist Officiants are licensed to perform legal wedding in the Province of Ontario.

Humanist Ceremonies are held anywhere: at your home, at Hart House or the MultiFaith Centre, in a historical or park setting, a restaurant, hotel, beach, boat, or balcony.
Personalised Wedding Ceremonies
We help you design your own unique wedding ceremony.  Humanist ceremonies are not religious, but they are creative, respectful, simple, and meaningful. Humanist Officiants work with each couple to create simple, personalised wedding ceremonies, in traditional and contemporary styles, which reflect your own values and commitment to each other.

Note: we frequently perform non-religious intercultural marriage ceremonies for couples from various backgrounds and spiritual and cultural traditions. We are happy to discuss your individual needs and answer questions, or to refer you to other Chaplains who follow specific religious traditions.

Same sex weddings
We welcome enquiries from same sex couples, and Humanist Officiants have been celebrating same sex weddings as commitment ceremonies before the legislation, and advocating for equal marriage for many years.  Same-sex couples have been receiving licenses since June 11, 2003, following the June 10, 2003 Ontario Court of Appeal decision making same-sex marriages legal in Ontario.

We are always happy to meet and discuss your plans. To book a consultation, please contact Mary
